Learning Styles:  Auditory, Visual, and Kinesthetic

Remember, that learners use all three modalities to receive and learn new information and experiences. The learner may prefer one style of learning for one task, and a combination of others for a different task.  We need to present information using all three styles.  This allows all learners the opportunity to become involved, no matter what their preferred style may be.

Auditory:  play word games, have the child explain concepts verbally, read text aloud, partner work-study/work/read with friends, musical jingles to aide memorization (learning songs).

Visual:  use pictures for step by step directions (color, cut, glue), use charts, diagrams, flashcards, talk with the child face-to-face and make eye contact whenever possible, and provide a quiet place and minimize distractions as much as possible.

Kinesthetic:  air writing, rhythmic clap and tap for spelling and memorization, sand writing, large arm writing on whiteboards, role playing, give breaks frequently, puzzles, blocks, modeling clay, science experiments, and use outdoors for learning opportunities.
