Lindsey Steiner Elementary Student Fernando Gomez Jr. places 2nd at the State Spanish Spelling Bee!

After 31 hard fought rounds with 33 students, Fernando Gomez Jr. became the runner-up for the New Mexico State Spanish Spelling Bee in Albuquerque, NM. Fernando is a 6th grade Dual Language student at Lindsey Steiner whose second language is Spanish. He is the son of Fernando and Veronica Gomez.  He and Maxamilliano Hultsch Martinez of Deming, NM will be representing the State of New Mexico this July in Denver, Colorado at the National Spanish Spelling Bee.

Fernando Gomez Jr. practiced the Spanish word lists passionately, even minutes before the Bee. He and the first place winner from Deming, NM went head to head for multiple rounds and went on to use a “Mystery List” after using all the words. Still then, they were able to spell most of those mysterious words. We want to congratulate and wish him the best of luck as he goes on to represent New Mexico this summer!

Fernando Gomez JR
