Portales Municipal Schools has adopted the following goals:

A billboard stating, “Welcome to Portales, a town of 12,000 friendly people and three or four old grouches,” greets visitors coming into Portales, New Mexico. For parents choosing a public education for their children, the Portales Municipal School District (PMSD) offers quality elementary and secondary instruction to the people of Roosevelt County residing within its district boundaries.

Portales Municipal Schools is comprised of seven grade-level campuses. The district serves approximately 2,823 students from pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade.
