The Physical
Education /Health Department at
EXPECTATIONS OF TEACHERS
To
ensure a safe environment for all students.
To develop a
comprehensive education program by providing students with an introduction to a
wide variety of physical activities.
To
treat every student with respect.
To
let each student know where he/she stands in terms of their grade.
To
increase and improve each student’s knowledge of physical education.
To be
a physically fit role model.
EXPECTATIONS OF STUDENTS
Always work to 100%
of your ability.
Be to class on
time. You must be seated in the gym
five minutes after the start of class.
Be prepared for
activity
Respect your parents,
teachers, student teachers, substitutes and classmates. Pushing, shoving, and other types of
horseplay are strictly prohibited.
Anyone caught harming another student is subject to removal from class.
When the teachers are
talking, you need to be listening.
Making noise or playing with equipment when the teacher is talking is
subject to removal from class and loss of points.
NEVER criticize or taunt other students.
EXPECTATIONS OF PARENTS
Be supportive of PHS
Physical Education/Health.
Appreciate the
benefits of physical activity.
Encourage your son or
daughter to exhibit a healthy lifestyle outside of school.
Be active with your
child. Research has shown that
children of physically active parents tend to be more active.
Understand that physical
education is essential to the development of your child as a productive
citizen.
Understand that a
physically educated person is less likely to need hospitalization, develop
heart disease, diabetes, and other medical conditions.
Understand that a
physically fit child will perform better in other academic areas.
If you have questions
or a problem with the program, please discuss your concern with the teacher
first.
Respect the decisions of the teacher.
CLASSROOM POLICIES
ATTENDANCE
It is essential that
you arrive at each and every class on time. Students are given 5 minutes after the
tardy bell to change and sit quietly in their roll call lines.
You will have 10
minutes at the end of the period to dress and prepare for the next class.
Class cuts are unacceptable and subject to disciplinary action and loss
of points.
EXCUSES
If you are unable to
participate you must be excused by a parent of doctor.
To be excused from
class you must do the following:
b. Supply your teacher with a doctor’s
excuse that specifically states the condition, what the child is able to do,
and when the child is able to return to class, or when he/she will be
reevaluated by the physician.\
DRESS
Proper gym shirt, shorts and shoes are required to participate. You cannot wear the same clothes
(excluding shoes, socks and underwear) that you wore to school.
The school dress code will be followed in class.
Students are not allowed to wear jewelry (this is a safety issue). Medical-type bracelets and
necklaces are allowed.
LOCKERS
Each student will be assigned and locker and combination.
Physical Education lockers are not to be used to store books.
SHOWER AND
HYGIENE
Students are not required to shower, but are encouraged to exhibit
personal hygiene skills.
Remember, no one like to sit next to a person who does not smell
pleasant.
Students need to bring a towel from home if they wish to shower after
class.
ASTHMA/HEALTH
ISSUES
All students with health issues, such as asthma, must notify their
teachers of the condition prior to activity.
Students with asthma are encouraged to keep an inhaler with their
teacher or in the office.

-25 - DISRUPTION OR ATTITUDE PROBLEM

MAKE UP WORK
You will be allowed to make up EXCUSED absences only.
You must do a one page report on any subject. This is due one week from the date of
you absence. We will not accept
late papers.
You can pick up a report form from you teacher.
HEALTH
Health is included in the Physical
Education Class.
Health classes will start after
Christmas. You will be given a
Health syllabus before we start that unit.
ADDITIONAL
INFORMATION
Remember that physical education is essential to growth and development.
This class is not the same as Athletics. We are focusing on lifetime sports and
healthy lifestyles.
An inability to follow the guidelines may result in disciplinary action
and lowered grade.
The reason for these guidelines is to help prepare these young people
to lead a physically active lifestyle.
